AlphaTauri explain why Tsunoda is no longer a ‘hot head’
AlphaTauri acknowledges that Yuki Tsunoda has made significant progress in the 2023 Formula 1 season, bouncing back after struggling during his initial years with the team. Due to his improved performance, AlphaTauri decided to extend his contract until 2024, alongside Daniel Ricciardo, as they embrace a new era with Peter Bayer as CEO and Laurent Mekies as Team Principal. Tsunoda has been the highest-scoring driver for AlphaTauri this season, securing top ten finishes on three occasions. With changes in his teammates, Tsunoda has emerged as the de facto team leader since Pierre Gasly’s departure last season. According to Jonathan Eddolls, Head of Trackside Engineering, Tsunoda has matured significantly since his debut season and has focused on understanding and improving his driving, rather than being hot-headed on the track. Eddolls cited the overall approach to race weekends, consistency, better feedback, and a deeper understanding of car dynamics as key factors contributing to Tsunoda’s progress. The team’s cohesion and ability to extract the best from Tsunoda through data analysis and feedback have further contributed to his improved performance.
